EC-13.1 How to Work in a Laboratory
You can arrive at a laboratory session with a stated objective, a pre-lab calculation and a written prediction, keep a record while you work, and leave with evidence rather than with a memory of what happened.

Laboratory work in this area is currently a scatter of build tasks inside other topics, and a reader who does all of them still never meets the method that holds them together. This topic is that method, and it is placed first because everything after it repeats the same seven steps on different equipment. It is also short by design: the point is a habit, not a body of knowledge.

A session whose objective is to build a circuit has no way to fail and therefore teaches little. A session that asks what the gain will be, and whether it matches the calculation, has a result.

Working out the expected values in advance takes half an hour and turns the session into a comparison. Without it, whatever the instrument shows becomes the answer, because there is nothing to disagree with it.

A prediction recorded before measuring is the only way to find out that you did not understand the circuit. Writing it afterwards feels the same and teaches nothing at all.

Settings, part numbers, the time and anything unexpected go down as they happen. A record assembled from memory at the end is missing exactly the detail that explains the result you could not account for.
