EC-13.2 The Measurement Bench
You can set up a bench from nothing, verify each instrument before trusting it, take a first set of readings with stated uncertainties, and recognise the three commonest ways a bench measurement goes wrong.

This is the first stage of the progression and it deliberately measures nothing interesting. The subject is the bench itself: whether the instruments agree with each other, whether the connections are what you think they are, and what the setup does when nothing is connected. A reader who can establish that has a foundation for every later session.
Work through these
Setting up a bench, and the order to do it in
Supply first with its current limit set, then the generator with its output off, then the instruments, then the circuit. Powering a new circuit before the limit is set is the mistake this order exists to prevent.

Measure something you already know. A known resistor, the oscilloscope's own calibrator output, the supply read on two meters. Five minutes here prevents a whole session of confident wrong readings.

Measuring a voltage on both a meter and an oscilloscope, and finding they disagree, is more informative than either reading alone. The disagreement usually names the problem: loading, bandwidth or the wrong measurement type.

Record what the instrument shows with the input shorted and with nothing connected. Anything smaller than that has not been measured, and knowing the number stops a whole class of imaginary results.

The value, the units, the uncertainty, the instrument and its range, and the conditions. A number on its own in a notebook is not usable a week later, even by the person who wrote it.

A ground clip somewhere unintended, an instrument on the wrong range or coupling, and a generator loaded differently from what its display assumes. Producing each on purpose once is how you learn to recognise them.
