E2.1 Listen and repeat

You can listen to a short English sentence and say it back clearly.

Topics shown in module order.

This is the first level of the Spoken English practice space: one sentence at a time, played aloud, with its meaning in Telugu underneath. You listen, you say the line, and you play it again to compare. The space is one click away from the English area page, and the first set of every level is open without an account.

Say it out loud

Every line in the practice space is played aloud, with its meaning in Telugu. Listen, say it back, and play it again as many times as you like. The first set of each level is open without an account, and nothing records you.

Open Spoken English practice

Work through these

  • Open Spoken English practice and play the first sentence of the first set

The first set starts at greetings, the same words your word list began with. Hearing a line spoken before you say it gives you the rhythm as well as the words, which reading alone cannot.

  • Say each line out loud after the voice, then play it again and compare

Comparing your own saying with the played line is the feedback loop of the whole space. Nothing records you; the comparison happens in your own ear, as many times as you want.

  • Use Listen slowly on any line that goes by too fast

The slow playing is there for the lines that blur together at full speed. Slowing a line down until every word is separate, then speeding back up, is how a hard line becomes an ordinary one.

  • Work through one whole set in a sitting, and come back to it the next day

A set is short enough for one honest sitting. Returning the next day tells you which lines stayed with you overnight, and the ones that faded are worth another round.

Practice you have recorded

Optional, and yours. This records that you say you worked on this topic. It is not a check of whether you got anything right.
