EC-19.3 Reading a Schematic, and the Parts on It
You can read a small schematic, name every part drawn on it, and find that same part in a drawer, in a catalogue and on a finished board.

Nothing is solved in this topic. The circuits course analyses a schematic and this one only reads it, which is a real distinction: a reader who can name the symbols, follow the nets and look up a value can already assemble somebody else's design and understand a datasheet, long before any analysis makes sense. The two numbers worth checking first on any part are its voltage rating and its power rating, because exceeding either is how components are destroyed.

A schematic is a small alphabet, and about a dozen symbols cover almost every drawing a beginner meets. Learning them as shapes with names, before learning what any of them does, makes the first reading possible.

A line means the two ends are the same electrical point, not that a wire runs that way physically. Junctions are marked with a dot and crossings without one, and misreading that is the first mistake everyone makes.

Supply and ground are often drawn as isolated symbols rather than as lines running across the page, to keep the drawing readable. Recognising that convention is what stops a schematic looking like several disconnected fragments.
Reading a value: colour bands, printed codes and what tolerance means
Components carry their values as coloured rings or short printed codes, and the last figure is usually a tolerance rather than a digit. A part within tolerance and a part at its nominal value are different things.

The same component exists in a form with legs that pass through a board and a form that sits on its surface. Which one you have decides whether it can go on a breadboard and how it has to be soldered.

A datasheet opens with a summary table, and the maximum voltage and the maximum power dissipation are the two figures that decide whether a part survives. Everything else can wait until the circuit is understood.
