EC-17.1 Reading a Datasheet, and Reading a Standard
You can find the figures that matter in a datasheet, tell a guaranteed limit from a typical value, read the conditions a figure was measured under, and locate the clause of a standard that applies to what you are building.

Reading a datasheet properly is the single most transferable skill in this area and almost nobody is taught it. A datasheet is a contract with conditions attached, and the difference between a guaranteed maximum and a typical value has ended more designs than any theoretical error. This topic is the explicit treatment the rest of the area assumes.
Work through these
The shape of a datasheet, and reading it in the right order
Absolute maximum ratings, then the recommended operating conditions, then the electrical characteristics, then the curves. Starting with the marketing description at the front is how the important numbers get missed.
NPTEL: Introduction to Embedded System Design (NSUT and IIT Jammu) · CourseGuaranteed limits against typical values
A minimum or maximum column is a promise the manufacturer will honour. A typical column is what most parts do and is not a promise, so designing against it means some parts will not work.
NPTEL: Introduction to Embedded System Design (NSUT and IIT Jammu) · CourseThe conditions every figure was measured under
Temperature, supply voltage, load and frequency are given beside each figure. A number quoted without its conditions is not information, and the conditions are usually more favourable than your application.
NPTEL: Measurement and Instrumentation (IIT Guwahati) · CourseAbsolute maximum ratings, which are not operating points
These are the values beyond which damage occurs, not values you may use. Designing at an absolute maximum is designing at the point where the manufacturer stops guaranteeing anything.
NPTEL: Introduction to Embedded System Design (NSUT and IIT Jammu) · CourseReading the curves rather than only the tables
The graphs show how a figure moves with temperature, supply or load, which the tables give at one point. A design that must work across a range needs the curve rather than the number.

Standards are searched rather than read. Identify which standard governs your case, find the clause, and follow its normative references, which are the ones it obliges you to satisfy.
