You can assemble the evidence a degree produced into something a reader can assess, write up a project so that the decisions are visible, choose what to leave out, and keep the whole thing current with a small regular effort.

This topic is about the evidence a degree should leave behind, which is a different question from getting hired; the Interview preparation area covers that and the two are cross-linked rather than merged. The argument here is simply that unrecorded work is indistinguishable from work never done, and that the recording is cheap if it is done as you go.

What belongs in a portfolio and what does not
Projects with a result, code that runs, measurements with method, and writing that explains a decision. Coursework everyone in the year submitted identically demonstrates attendance rather than ability.

What the problem was, what you chose and why, what went wrong and what you did about it. A reader learns far more from the decisions than from a description of the finished thing.

A repository they can open, a measurement with its conditions, a photograph of the actual build. An assertion that something worked, with nothing attached, carries almost no weight.

Say clearly which parts were yours in a team project, and cite the libraries, designs and tutorials you built on. Overstating your contribution is the most common way a portfolio damages its author.

Three strong pieces read better than nine mixed ones, because a reader judges by the weakest thing they see. Removing early work as later work replaces it is maintenance rather than modesty.
