Sanskrit's grammatical tradition is the part with the strongest claim on an engineer's attention: Panini's rule system is a formal generative grammar written more than two thousand years before the term existed, which is why it keeps appearing in computational linguistics. Vedic mathematics here means a set of computation shortcuts — useful, and worth testing yourself rather than accepting on authority. Paleography, the study of old writing, is what makes any of these sources readable at all.
