OE1-2.2 The Indian Education System
You can compare education in ancient, medieval and modern India by aims, subjects and languages, and name the sciences and scientists of each period along with the concepts of science in Indian Knowledge Systems.
Read this unit as a history of institutions rather than a list of names: what was taught, to whom, and who paid for it changes strikingly across the three periods. The ancient and medieval centres of learning were large organised institutions, which is the fact that most surprises students. When the syllabus speaks of 'concepts of sciences', the useful question to keep asking is what counted as evidence and proof in each tradition.

How teaching was organised in the earliest period, and what it aimed at. The residential model and its assumptions are the thing to notice.
Education in medieval India
The changes through the middle period, including new institutions and languages. Continuity and change are both present, which is the point.
Education in modern India
The system that produced the one you are in. Knowing its origins explains several features that otherwise look arbitrary.
Aims of education across the three periods
Comparing what each period was trying to achieve, which is more revealing than comparing methods. Aims changed more than techniques did.
Subjects and languages of instruction
What was taught and in which languages, which connects to the linguistics topic that follows. The multilingual norm is worth registering.
Science and scientists of ancient India
The scientific work of the earliest period and the people who did it. Read with attention to what the evidence actually supports.
Science and scientists of medieval and modern India
The same for the later periods, including the colonial encounter. The transmission of ideas in both directions is the interesting part.
Concepts of sciences in Indian Knowledge Systems
How scientific concepts sit within the wider knowledge tradition. It is the framing item for the science topic at the end of the course.
