E1.1 Everyday words
You can say and understand a first set of English words for greetings, family, school and home, and you know what each one means in Telugu.
Topics shown in module order.
Every language starts with a handful of words you meet every day. The words on this page are grouped by where you meet them: greeting somebody, naming your family, things at school and things at home. Each word carries its meaning in Telugu, so you always know what you are saying. Read them, say them out loud, and come back as often as you like.

Work through these
Read the greeting words on this page out loud, with their Telugu meanings
Greetings are the words you will use most often, and the ones people hear from you first. Saying each one aloud with its Telugu meaning beside it ties the sound to the sense from the start.
Say the family words to somebody at home, pointing at the person each word names
A word sticks when it names a real person rather than a line on a page. Pointing at your own family while you say each word turns the list into something you already know.
Pick out the school words and use each one for the real thing it names
These are the words for the things around you in a classroom. Naming the real object as you meet it is how a word stops being a translation and starts being yours.
Learn the home words, and name each thing as you touch it during one day
Home is where you can practise without anybody watching. One ordinary day touches most of the things on this list, which makes the day itself the revision.
Cover the Telugu meanings and see how many English words you can still say
Checking yourself is the quickest way to find the words that have not settled yet. The ones you miss are the ones to say aloud a few more times, and the list is short enough to finish in minutes.
